Jeff Burch Paintings and Sculpture at Jay Grimm Gallery, Chelsea

Jay Grimm Gallery at 505 West 28th Street, New York, will hold an exhibition of paintings, and sculpture by Jeff Burch from June 8 through July 14, 2000.

Burch works in many media, incorporating practices from painting and sculpture as well as using motors, and electronics. His primary interests lie in issues of security surveillance and the voyeuristic appeal of popular culture. Burch 's works then become wry comments on the way in which both art and artists are scrutinized by the public.

On another level, Burch 's paintings explore the relationship between abstraction and landscape. By using 'flipcards ' which rotate on small motors to simulate movement and depth on a two-dimensional surface and by mounting small model trees on green color-fields to transform the monochromes into aerial views, Burch plays on the tendency to associate abstract painting with nature.

The current show contains two large paintings with kinetic elements and video cameras and a wall filled with silkscreens, sculptures, paintings and found objects. Burch 's inventiveness and wide-ranging interests are clearly visible throughout.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11-6 P.M. and by appointment. The Gallery will be closed from June 30 through July 11. Please call the Gallery at 212.564.7662 for images or additional information.
